About Us

Welcome to China and congratulations! You've just learned your first Chinese word, "ni hao" means "hello"!

"Ni Hao Neighbors" is our version of the "Welcome Wagon". We're a group of expat women from many different countries who have come together to offer guidance and information as you take your first steps toward the adventure of living in the Dongcheng district of Dongguan, China. Yes, you CAN have a great time and meet some terrific friends while on this journey.  We've been where you are and we're ready to help you get started.

 Welcome packets are available that include the latest issue of our local "HERE! DG" magazine, an address book or business card holder  with a selection of cards from our favorite local businesses, an NHN mug (tote bag coming soon!), international school info and more!

Whether you need to find the perfect place to live, locate that familiar brand of shampoo or just have coffee and a chat, one of your "Ni Hao Neighbors"  is always available to lend a hand.

                                                        !!! SAFETY ALERT!!! 
One of our expat ladies was the victim of a purse snatching recently while having lunch in KFC at the Carrefour in Century Plaza on Dongcheng Ave. She and her friend were seated near the door when a man approached, touched her friend's shoulder ,and indictated that she had dropped something on the floor. When both ladies bent down to look, this man's partner grabbed the purse from the seat beside them. Normally, both women always carry their bags across the body, but this time one choose to put it in the seat beside her while she ate. Neither lady was hurt, but had this occurred on the street the outcome could have been very different.
These men saw an opportunity and took it.
 
At this time of year there are  gangs of pickpockets and purse snatchers roaming heavily populated areas. 
Let's all be extra careful. You never who may be watching and waiting to target YOU!
 

Stay safe and follow these tips:

*Keep money in different places on your person and not always just in your purse.

*Whenever possible, walk and shop with a buddy. If you must be out alone, take extra care and be aware of your surroundings at all times.

*Carry a purse that is a “messenger” style and wear it across your body-with the opening facing YOU.

*Tuck your cell phone in an inside pocket of your clothing or even in your bra-keep it where it’s easily accessible TO YOU!

*Carry as little of value as possible. And carry only as much cash as you need for that particular errand.

*And most importantly, if you think you’re being targeted or followed by a suspicious person or group of people, go immediately to a heavily populated area and MAKE SOME NOISE! Yell, get the attention of a policeman or guard if you can. Remember, it is better to lose a little bit of your dignity than it is to lose your life or your valuables.
